English Georgian Period 1800s Oak Mule Chest with Lift Top and Three Drawers

$8,750

An English Georgian period oak mule chest from the early 19th century, with lift top, three drawers and brass hardware. Created in England during the Georgian period in the early years of the 19th century, this oak chest called a mule chest features a rectangular planked lid with great aging, lifting up to reveal an interior convenient to store blankets and linen. The façade is made of three panels showcasing raised and molded accents. The chest may owe its name to the presence of the three darker hued protruding drawers in its lower section, where slippers (called mules at the time), were kept. Presenting a carved skirt, the chest is raised on four short feet. The sides echoe the panels seen in the front and the back shows great age. Mule chests are a rare find and very much sought after, making this particular English Georgian period piece circa 1800 an excellent choice to decorate any bedroom or living room!
