Scottish 1900s Orkney Island Canopy Chair with Hooded Handwoven Straw Back

$6,550

A Scottish Orkney Island canopy chair from the early 20th century with handwoven straw hooded back, rush seat, open arms, tapering legs and side stretchers. Born during the Turn of the Century in the archipelago of Orkney off of the northern coast of Scotland, this canopy chair features a tall hooded handwoven strack back, designed to protect the sitter from the cold winds of the North Sea. Two open, slightly serpentine arms rest on a rectangular framed rush seat. The chair is raised on four tapering straight legs, connected to one another through plain side stretchers. With its highly recognizable silhouette and lovely patina, this Orkney Island canopy chair circa 1900 will bring a comfortable touch of authenticity to any home, particularly placed in a living room next to a fireplace.
