A pair of Italian side chairs from the mid-19th century, with crescent shaped backs, new linen upholstered seats and saber legs. Born in Italy during the third quarter of the 19th century, each of this pair of unusual Italian chairs features a curving moon crescent-shaped crest, adorned with the classical figure of the god Mercury. The splat is replaced by a hand carved finial with gilded accents. The oval seat is covered with a new linen upholstery surrounded by a brass nailhead trim, while the ensemble is raised on four saber legs, connected to one another through an X-form cross stretcher. With their exquisite silhouettes and lovely patina, these Italian accent chairs circa 1860 will bring a touch of refinement to any home, particularly in a foyer or living room.
