A pair of English oil on canvas paintings by Francis E. Jamieson (1895 – 1950) depicting Scottish Highland cows. Created in England during the first half of the 20th century, each of this pair of oil on canvas paintings depicts a herd of cows walking in a Scottish loch, one of Jamieson’s favorite subjects. An English painter, he found his passion while spending a holiday in the Highlands of Scotland, Loch Lomond and the Trossochs National Park being his cherished spots. He worked under about 15 different pseudonyms, W. Richards (showcased on our paintings) being one of them. Bathed in golden light (one depicting the morning light while the other one is at sunset), the scenes are perfectly composed and exude an undeniable sense of calmness. Some of the cows are drinking from the loch while others are gently lifting their heads up to look at us, subtly inviting us in the scene. Set inside gilded frames and presenting a horizontal format, this pair of Francis E. Jamieson Scottish Highland cows in a landscape painting will make for an excellent decorative addition to any home!
