Pair of English 1880s Large Carved Oak Lions on Square Bases

Price: $9,800

A pair of large English carved oak lions from the late 19th century, with square bases. Created in England during the last quarter of the 19th century, this pair of large English sculptures depict two majesting lions sitting obediently on a square base. The precision of the carving is quite impressive, the lions' manes are very detailed, and the instrument marks are still visible, evoking hair. The bases consist of two sections: an upper octagon and a lower square. The transition between the two sections is quite well done, the angles have been sculpted. With their striking attitudes, great proportions and dark and lustrous finish, this pair of tall English carved oak lions circa 1880 will make a striking addition to any home, perhaps placed in an entrance welcoming visitors or in a living room framing a fireplace.
