Pair of 1840s Biedermeier Walnut Stands with Drawer, Door and Semi-Columns

$10,500

A pair of period Biedermeier walnut stands from the mid-19th century, with single drawer and door, ebonized wood columns and gilt capitals. Born in the first half of the 19th century, each of this pair of petite Biedermeier commodes features a rectangular top sitting above a single drawer. This drawer opens thanks to a brass star-shaped pull. A door placed below opens to reveal a convenient storage area. In typical Biedermeier manner, each door is flanked by two exquisite ebonized wood semi-columns, surmounted by gilt Corinthian capitals. This creates a perfect contrast between the warmth of the walnut wood, black hue of the ebonized wood and the golden tone of the capitals. The commodes are raised on slender tapering legs with slightly curving extremities, in the manner of saber legs. The purity of their silhouettes, combined with the refinement of their subtle décor will make this pair of Biedermeier stands, circa 1840 an excellent choice for any home, whether placed in a living room or bedroom.
