Pair of Italian neoclassical giltwood upholstered armchairs with winged lion motifs from the late 18th century. Each of this pair of Italian armchairs features a beautifully carved back adorned with a stylized fleur-de-lys, flanked with delicate volutes and acanthus leaves. The curved arms terminate their course with exquisite winged lion carvings, supporting with their head palmettes, presaging the taste that the Empire era is going to develop for Egyptian art. The muslin covered seat receiving a custom cushion is raised on two cylindrical carved legs in the front and two saber ones in the back. The finesse of the decor, combined with the gilt finish and elegant lines make this pair of Italian armchairs, circa 1795 a wonderful accent for any room.
