A French large size hand-carved rectangular oak mirror with fruit and foliage motifs from the second half of the 19th century. Born in the third quarter of the 19th century, this French wooden mirror features an exquisitely carved rectangular frame, made of various moldings such as a rais-de-coeur inspired inner frieze, followed by a bead-and-reel motif. The next layer, of slightly convex shape, is adorned with an abundance of fruits and foliage, ribbon-tied in the four centers. The outer frame reprises the motifs of the inner molding, but on a grander scale. The mirror plate in the center is slightly antiqued. With its richly carved décor and majestic presence, this French mirror, circa 1870 will be a undeniable focal point in any room, from a living room to a foyer.
