Italian 19th Century Carved Giltwood Composite Capitals Made into Table Lamps

$6,700

A pair of Italian giltwood Composite capitals from the 19th century, mounted recently on round lucite bases and made into table lamps wired for the US. Created in Italy during the 19th century, each piece features a giltwood Composite capital, combining the graceful acanthus leaves from the Corinthian style and the scrolls of the Ionic one, accented with egg-and-dart motifs and petite beads. The capitals show a nicely weathered appearance with wood loss and aging, reminding us that they are antiques that come with the associated imperfections. They are unfinished in the back, they will therefore look best placed against a wall. These Composite capitals have recently been made into table lamps, with a single socket springing from the top. They have also been mounted on circular lucite bases, whose transparent quality complements the carved giltwood beautifully. Their total height is 20.5″ to the top of their socket. With their Classical traits and distressed patina, this pair of 19th century Italian Composite capitals made into table lamps wired for the US will bring an elegant presence to any home, displayed on a console table, pair of demilunes or enfilade.
