French Régence Style Canapé à Oreilles with Cross Stretcher and Blotched Fabric

$8,700

A French Régence style wingback sofa from the early 19th century, with cabriole legs, cross stretcher and red and white blotched upholstery. Created in France during the early years of the 19th century, this “canapé à oreilles” as it is called in French, is inspired by the stylistic characteristics of the Régence era which saw the transition between Louis XIV and Louis XV, his great-grandson who was too young to reign. A camel back is connected to two arms partially surrounding the seat. This section is upholstered with a red and white blotched fabric secured with a brass nailhead trim. The sofa is raised on six cabriole legs with hoof feet, connected to one another through a curving cross stretcher. With its elegant lines and nice proportions, this French Régence style wingback sofa circa 1800 will make for a lovely addition to any home, particularly placed in a living room or bedroom!
