French Chapeau de Gendarme 19th Century Carved Elm Cabinet with Glass Doors

$12,000

A French elm vitrine cabinet from the 19th century, with chapeau de gendarme top, glass doors, carved décor and three drawers. Created in France during the 19th century, this elm vitrine cabinet features a narrow upper section topped with a chapeau de gendarme molded cornice, sitting above two glass doors adorned with carved panels. These doors open thanks to ornate iron hardware to reveal a brown stained interior made of adjustable shelves offering convenient display opportunities. The lower section, deeper in dimensions, presents three drawers carved with elegant fan motifs surrounded by oval molded medallions and cartouches. They are fitted with brass pulls on pierced and scalloped backplates. The sides are made of recessed panels and the back is, of course, unfinished. The ensemble is resting on a sturdy conforming base. With its nice proportions and skillfully executed décor, this French elm vitrine cabinet from the 19th century will make for a great focal point in any living room or foyer!
