A French carved giltwood hexagonal barometer from the 19th century, after Toricelli and topped with Allegory of the Liberal Arts. Created in France during the 19th century, this giltwood barometer is adorned with a carved crest depicting musical instruments symbolizing the Liberal Arts. The hexagonal frame, carved with palmettes, beads and rais-de-cœur motifs surrounds a sixteen-point painted rose in the centre receiving a metal needle with arrow and moon tips. Calligraphed on the periphery ‘Baromètre Selon Toricelli’, the famous 17th century Italian physicist inventor of the barometer, it is secured under glass. With its exquisite décor and golden tones, this 19th century French barometer will enliven any wall beautifully!
