A French Directoire period three-drawer walnut commode from the early 19th century, with white marble top and ebonized accents. Born in the early years of the 19th century, this French walnut commode features a rectangular white veined marble top, sitting above three dovetailed drawers. Each drawer is divided into three black painted frames, surrounding the linear handles and shield-shaped escutcheon. This elegant horizontal geometric rhythm is perfectly balanced by the verticality of the fluted side posts that alternate light accents in their upper section with the ebonized tones of the lower section. The sides are simply adorned with recessed panels that echo the drawers’ presence. The commode is raised on four tapered legs with brass block feet in the front. With its clean lines and lovely walnut patina, this French Directoire commode circa 1800 with marble top will bring a touch of classical elegance to any home, whether placed in a bedroom, living room or foyer.
