This delicate late 19th century English Victorian four-fold gilt leather screen is decorated with painted pastoral scenes bordered by brass nails and an embossed frame of vegetal motifs. Each panel features a crossbow-shaped top over a row of three vignettes with pastoral and gallantry scenes separated by foliage. Drawing from the classical tradition of Renaissance Italy, these idyllic pastoral landscapes with elements of classical architecture where animals and shepherds coexist evoke rural innocence in the Roman countryside.
