An English tall Japanned secretary from the early 20th century with black and gold chinoiserie décor, slant front desk, broken arch pediment and multiple drawers. Created in England during the first quarter of the 20th century, this tall secretary captures our attention with its black and gold colors, elegant lines and chinoiserie décor. The secretary is topped with a broken arch pediment accented with tall carved giltwood finials and sitting above two stunning doors adorned with figures engaged in various activities. These doors open to reveal a central door with glass panel, surrounded by narrow vertical compartments for documents and multiple drawers. The central section presents a slant front desk opening to additional compartments. The writing area comes to rest on two pull outs. The bottom is made of four drawers (two small ones over two larger ones), adorned with a similar décor. The sides are also decorated and the back is, of course, unfinished. The ensemble is raised on four turnip feet. With its striking lines and beautiful gold and black japanned décor, this English tall secretary circa 1920 will be a showstopper in any home!
