A Black Forest carved wooden bear head from the late 19th century, with oak leaves and green, yellow and red accents. Created during the last quarter of the 19th century, this Black Forest wall hanging sculpture depicts a brown bear’s head springing forth from a round red painted medallion. The bear is slightly tilting his head to the side and his open mouth reveals his large fangs. His eyes are extremely focused on a scene invisible to us and his ears are up, he is very alert. His coat is rendered with nice details. The sculpture’s lower section presents green oak leaves and brown acorns surrounding a central golden toned motif. A little loop in the back will allow the piece to be hung on a wall. With its handsome subject and lively execution, this Black Forest carved wooden bear head circa 1880 will make for a great addition to any décor, particularly placed in a mountain cabin or country home.
