Created in Belgium during the first half of the 20th century, this oil on canvas painting depicts a herd of deer exiting a forest. Consisting of two stags and two does, the group is depicted in the foreground while the scene opens up to a large sky in the background. Our eye is immediately drawn to the central stag who is jumping a little stream, is head lifted upwards and his antlers standing out beautifully on a line of trees in the background. Set inside a giltwood frame, the painting is signed lower left.
