An Austrian Biedermeier period three-drawer commode from the mid-19th century. This Biedermeier chest features a rectangular top with canted corners in the front, above three dovetailed drawers. Each drawer is adorned with brass ring pulls and flower shaped backplates, flanking a central escutcheon. The side posts are angled, thus echoing the top’s corners, as well as the short tapered feet on which the commode is raised. The restraint shown on the decorative treatment of this Austrian chest, typical of the Biedermeier period, allows the purity of the lines, along with the exquisite wood grain to take a central role. Placed anywhere in a home, this three-drawer commode will be a great complement to any room.
