19th Century French Louis XVI Style Crested Gilt Patinated Mirror with Trophy

$2,250

A 19th century French Louis XVI style crested mirror featuring an original glass mirror plate within a patinated gilt-wood frame resting on two square-shaped leaf-capped supports. The openwork crest is carved with two flutes flanking a lyre above foliate scrolls and hanging ribbon bows. Gilt carved anthemions and stylized scrolling leaves adorn the four corners of the frame. Rosettes accent the middle parts of the patinated and gilt-bordered frame ending in reeded winglets. The ribbon-tied musical trophy carved on the crest along with the classical elements of decoration, characteristic of the Louis XVI style, would make this French giltwood and painted mirror, circa 1870 a great addition to any room, perhaps above a fireplace or a demilune table.
